As always, greetings to all past, present and future U of A Black Alumni Society members! Happy Birthday wishes go out to all Razorback alumni celebrating a birthday during the month of November and a Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Now that we are well into November, our attention is automatically and inescapably drawn to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a solemn time of reflection and a specific day set aside to “give thanks” for all the good things, fortunes and blessings we have received. In order to “give thanks,” one must first recognize that you have a reason to “give thanks.” In other words, one must first THINK BACK. Secondly, one must then see what it is for which you should “give thanks.” In other words, one must then LOOK BACK. I think, believe and know that when you THINK BACK and LOOK BACK at your time at the U of A, you will find something for which you are, could and should be thankful. I think it is safe to say that the success that you are currently enjoying or have enjoyed in your career is a by-product and result of your time at the U of A.
To be thankful is not just something to be said, but rather something to be shown. True thankfulness is shown by either demonstration and/or illustration. Our minority students would prefer that you do both. Although you can illustrate your thankfulness from afar by simply contributing to the Black Alumni Society (BAS) scholarship fund (GIVE BACK), we do not merely want your money. We want and our students need to witness the demonstration of your thankfulness. In other words, they need to physically see you, the person they are striving to emulate. COME BACK. If you would only COME BACK to “The Hill” and observe the bright and talented minority students are following in and determined to surpass your footsteps, I am convinced you will find more than 800 reasons (minority student enrollment) to be thankful.
If you choose to illustrate your thankfulness, you can do so by clicking the button below and making your contribution or by mailing check to Arkansas Alumni Association, 491 N. Razorback Road, Fayetteville, AR 72701 made payable to the U of A Black Alumni Society. Your personal demonstration of thankfulness will also be a powerful and long lasting illustration of your thankfulness. Make it unquestionably so by registering for and then attending the 2013 U of A Black Alumni Society Reunion on Friday, April 19th – Sunday, April 21st, 2013.
As you make or have made a living, now it is the right time to help us make a life for these students. Again, I humbly ask you to “Think Back, Look Back, Come Back and Give Back” as the ultimate expression of thanksgiving to support this critical need.
A Luta Continuum (The Struggle Continues),
Bobby W. Jones, M.D
President, U of A Black Alumni Society
