Sydney Dickson is a recipient of the Arkansas Alumni Association’s 2011 Endowed Scholarship. A resident of Joplin, MO, Dickson has attended the same school since kindergarten. Participating in volleyball, basketball and National Honors Society, she is also the president of her school’s student council. After a school presentation and a tour of the University of Arkansas campus, her interest in math and science led her to decide on engineering as a major.

“I appreciate the Arkansas Alumni Association donors for their generous support so I may further my education at the University of Arkansas. I am honored to receive the Endowed Scholarship in the amount of $6,500 per year. Now that my financial burden has been alleviated, I will be able to focus on my studies and not on how I will pay off student loans,” she said in her thank you letter.

Aspiring to become a civil engineer, with an emphasis in transportation engineering, Dickson says she hopes “to develop the skills necessary to supervise complex interactions between nature and technology.” While on campus, she intends to take part in the design team for “steel bridge or concrete canoe competitions,” study abroad, graduate with honors, get involved with Christ on Campus, and attend as many home football games as possible.

“I am proud to say that I will soon become a part of the University of Arkansas family and I would like to thank you once again for your financial support enabling me to do so.”
