Imani Smith and Chris Young would like to thank the Black Alumni Society for awarding them scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.

Dear Black Alumni,

Thank you so much for the opportunity in receiving the Black Alumni Society Challenge Scholarship. Being a second year recipient for this scholarship has truly blessed me in becoming an educated black woman.  My plans are to graduate from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in African American Studies. I am a part of various organizations on campus such as the Black Alumni Society, Black Studentd Association, Student Alumni Association, and a member of the Razorback Cheerleading Squad. Without your help, none of my aspirations would be possible. As you may know, college is very expensive and only gets more expensive as the years go on; therefore, this scholarship has taken a huge burden off me and my family. I am very grateful that there is a scholarship that can reach out into the community to African American students and impact their lives in many ways, starting with financial help to a better college education. It definitely has impacted mine! Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Imani Smith

Dear BAS Alumni,

My name is Chris Young, and I am a sophomore majoring in Biology/Pre-Med. It is an honor to be named a Black Alumni Society Endowed Scholar. This scholarship provides me with funding for my educational goals and makes my dreams of entering the field of medicine become possible.

After I complete my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue a career in Dentistry. I believe that this scholarship plays a vital role in ensuring that I am a successful student as it takes my focus off of finances and allows me to concentrate wholeheartedly on academia. I am very appreciative for your generous contributions to my success.

With great thanks,

Chris Young
