Bo Morrison is a native Arkansan and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas in 1994.  He is a long-time member of the Arkansas Alumni Association and recently met with the association’s Assistant Director for Membership Experience Collin Brunner to discuss his U of A student experience and what association membership means to him. The following is a transcript of their conversation.

What does membership mean to you?

Membership in the Arkansas Alumni Association is a lifelong connection to all Razorbacks young and old, near and far. I come from a long line of Razorbacks dating back to my grandmother who cheered from the football sidelines in the 1940s. My dad was a Razorback tight end and my mom was Homecoming Queen both in the late sixties. My sisters and I made our own footprints across campus in the 1990s and 2000s, and now I watch my nieces and nephews do the same. Membership is one way that I continue to support the tradition of excellence at the University of Arkansas. Through the Arkansas Alumni Association, I am able to fulfill my responsibility and feel the honor of promoting that tradition throughout the world. After living on both coasts for several years and converting many Southern California natives into Hog-calling Razorbacks, it feels good to be back in Arkansas again reconnecting with friends, family and fellow alumni.

Did you have a mentor, class or activity that enhanced your campus experience?

I received my degree from the Lemke School of Journalism and Strategic Media where Professor Larry Foley made a huge impact on my campus career. Through his guidance, I graduated with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations and a Minor in Broadcast Journalism. His support and mentorship helped pave my career path to Washington D.C. after graduation where I served as Press Secretary to Senator David Pryor. The real-world education I received from him has stayed with me throughout my working career.

Which membership benefits do you value most?

The most important benefit I see as a member is the opportunity to participate in the constantly evolving role of our alumni association. I am encouraged and inspired that our association has helped bring about new and diverse groups within the organization. The Pride Alumni Society is a perfect example of the continuous evolution of outreach and engagement that is so important in valuing both students and members. The relationships and events that our association supports will continue to bring us all – from every walk of life – together as proud University of Arkansas alumni
