Student workers are an important part of the team at the Arkansas Alumni Association. Whether they are writing profiles of alumni, doing research, helping maintain the website, working on Arkansas magazine or printing event invitations, our student workers not only provide a valuable extension of the staff, they also build their own resumes and portfolios. On Saturday, five of our student workers will graduate:
Devonnie Mann
I came from across the country to get my education at the University of Arkansas and I didn’t know it then, but I realize it now, as I am days away from graduation, that I made one of the best decisions of my life by coming to school here. A part of the reason I came to school here was because of the generous scholarship I received from the U of A San Francisco Alumni chapter. Through my scholarship I was blessed with the opportunity of applying and being able to work as the scholarship program intern. I have learned valuable skills that have shaped me into a better employee than I ever could have been had I not worked as an intern for the Alumni Association. I truly cannot imagine my college years without my involvement with the Alumni Association as an intern. The people, staff and alumni that I have had the opportunity to meet and work with because of this internship will forever be one of my greatest college experiences and memories and I will be forever thankful to the Alumni Association for that.
Macy Burr
A Plano, TX, native, I am graduating from the University of Arkansas in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in visual design. I worked as a graphic design intern at the Arkansas Alumni Association for one year, and it was a really valuable experience in terms of helping me build my portfolio and preparing me to work in a professional environment. After graduation, I plan to take a marketing and design position at Launch Marketing in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Emily McLain
I’m from Parkville, MO, and I’m a senior honors student studying communication disorders. I am finishing up my third and final year as an undergrad while also concluding my time here at the Arkansas Alumni Association. If it weren’t for the Association, I wouldn’t be receiving my diploma and moving on to obtain my Master’s in speech-language pathology at the U of A. This job simultaneously provided me the opportunity to work with a wide array of individuals, gain beneficial job skills, and help fund my education. I believe my years spent at the Alumni House have prepared me more for my future than any other student job could.

I’m from Fayetteville and I started working at the Alumni Association in the fall semester as an intern writer and photographer. I’ve had the opportunity to write obituaries for famous professors, write profile pieces on interesting and successful alumni and cover alumni events. As a journalism major, this internship has provided me with invaluable writing experience that will give me a competitive edge when looking for jobs and it has also given me definitive skills for when I go to graduate school.
Shanna Drummond
I’m a native of Fayetteville and I will graduate with a communications disorders degree. I plan to start graduate school here at the University of Arkansas this fall to study speech-language pathology. I have interned at the Arkansas Alumni Association since the fall of 2012 and spent my time researching class notes for the Senior Walk section of Arkansas magazine and then typing the entries for each issue of the magazine. I have learned a lot about the Alumni Association and made some great connections.
I feel privileged to have worked with each of these individuals. They are all incredibly talented and I am certain, will do amazing things in the world!!!!
