Dear Fellow Alums and friends,
It is amazing how time passes. It seems as though it was just yesterday that we all had gathered for the 11th reunion of the Black Alumni Association. However, in three months, on April 20, 2014, it will be one full year since we all were excited about seeing each other on the HILL.From that date of April 20th, we will have 12 months to plan for the 12th Black Alumni Association Reunion. As our theme states, it will be a time for us to Honor the Past, While Building the Future. In that sense, as we prepare for 2015, I ask that you reach out to other college classmates who haven’t attended in the past and invite them to come and celebrate with us. While you start your planning, I would like to solicit and encourage you to submit names for the BAS Awards. There are a vast number of individuals who have made a difference while they were at the University of Arkansas as well as within their individual communities. You should ponder those names and prepare to submit your nominations for the following categories: BAS Citation of Distinguished Alumni Award and the BAS Young Alumni Award.
Another area you should ponder is the establishment of a scholarship in your name or in honor of someone of your choice. How benefiting it would be for you to leave a legacy of an established scholarship endowment to assist a young U of A student in continuing to pursue an education at the University of Arkansas.If you are interested in starting a scholarship endowment, please feel free to reach out to Angela Mosley Monts for additional information.If each of us would start individual scholarship endowments, we could get closer to our million-dollar-scholarship goal. The BAS Board is focusing on increasing membership and scholarship opportunities as we prepare for our spring board meeting and a klatch on April 26, 2014 in Dallas, TX. We would like to encourage those of you who live in the Dallas area to come and participate in the board meeting as well as attend the social gathering. We would like to hear your thoughts and gather your input. Mark your calendars now for April 26, 2014, and watch for additional information on the location at a later date.Hope to see you in Dallas!
