Hello fellow Razorbacks, I’m Dave Gearhart, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas. Like many of you, I am a proud graduate of our Alma Mater. I’d like to invite you to take a moment to recall some of your fondest memories of your University of Arkansas experience. Maybe it’s your first Razorback football game on a crisp fall afternoon. Maybe it’s the friends you made on the Hill, meeting your spouse, hiking across campus on a snowy winter morning, or a class you took.
I hope these memories rekindle the pride, passion and tradition you feel for the University of Arkansas. I hope they remind you that you received more than an education—you may have also met your spouse, found a new career path, or made life-long friends. Invaluable experiences, all of them.
But now I’d like to ask you to give a little back by joining the Arkansas Alumni Association family.
In our Drive for 35 Campaign you can stay connected and enjoy all of the benefits of membership in the Alumni Association for as little as $45 a year. You will receive the award winning ARKANSAS magazine, enjoy discounted access to the pre-game rallies at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House, discount programs, and many other benefits. By joining, you’ll have increased exposure and access to chapter events in your hometown, and stay connected through our monthly e-newsletter, @Arkansas. Most importantly, a portion of your membership dues will also help fund much needed scholarships for University of Arkansas students.
I encourage you to join the Alumni Association during its Drive for 35 to increase our membership to 35,000 members by 2011. If you already are a member, THANK YOU! Please forward this message to your friends and family who may not be members.
We need you to support the Arkansas Alumni Association by joining our family of active members. Do it now on the Association’s website.
“Alumni & friends who show loyalty and support through membership in the Arkansas Alumni Association are essential to the success of the University of Arkansas.” ~Chancellor G. David Gearhart ‘78, ‘89 A+ Life Member
We appreciate your support!
Chancellor Dave Gearhart, I want to receive my Masters Degree in Geography with the class of 2012 which marks the 45th anniversary of the day I ought to have graduated in 1967 but did not. I have a doctorate from Ole Miss and three degrees from Jackson State University I failed to meet the belatedly adjusted requirements from a non-thesis to a thesis requirement at Arkansas. (I started ina non-thesis track but the rotating department chairmanship brought about a change. Plus, I made three C’s.) If it matters to you, I am a black former graduate student who labored under adverse circumstances while being the lone non-white student in all of my classes from 1965-67. Conversely, the graduate study at U of Ark has really and truly been the spark of my life I have taught geography on four campuses in Mississippi (Jackson State, Tougaloo, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi Valley State) and Tennessee (LeMoyne-Owen College) over the last 44 years while also seving as a college administrtor. Life has been good. I am in the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame, two of my children ventured across the Mississippi River into Arkansas with one getting a degree in Biology Fisheries at Pine Bluff and the other serving as Associate Professor of Obstetric and Gynecology at UAMS. But, I am unfulfilled and would like to graduate with a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas. Please advise.
