I am excited about the upcoming trips to southeast and central Arkansas. To begin, an invitation has been extended to us from Renee Taylor, an alumna of the University. We’ve accepted and have planned to be a presence at the high school for the BAS STEM event in McGehee, Arkansas. Several of the BAS Board members and I will hit the road, traveling to McGehee, to serve as speakers and mentors on Saturday, November 8, at 9:00 a.m. Our focus will be those students enrolled in high schools in McGehee, Dumas and Dermott. If any of our alumni are in or around this target area, please accept as we invite you to join us at McGehee Municipal Complex, located at 901 Holly Street. This will be a great opportunity for members of BAS to give back in those communities.
Secondly, on Saturday, November 8, we (the BAS Board Members) are hosting a “Road to Silver” Reception in Little Rock, a pre-celebration of the 25th Year Reunion Celebration, at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m. You are invited to attend this reception as honored guests. The fellowship with each other and your Board of Directors will be memorable, as we’re eager to give you a sampling of our plans for the 25th Year Reunion Celebration before you come to Fayetteville on April 16-19, 2015. This is one way to bring “The Hill” to you while giving you the opportunity to ask questions and or voice any concerns about the upcoming reunion. We’ll share some of the excitement your Black Alumni Society has in store and extol the workings of BAS during this past year. I challenge central Arkansas to either meet or exceed the number of alumni who attended the “Road to Silver” reception held in Dallas, last summer. Our Dallas gathering had so many familiar faces that I felt as though I was back in Fayetteville. I hope all of our You of A alums in Arkansas will come out to this reception in Little Rock on November 8, so we can rekindle acquaintances and friendships established while on The Hill in Fayetteville and surpass the number of attendees at the Dallas reception. It will be a night to remember and we want you to be a part of it. You might be asking, “What is the charge to attend the “Road to Silver” Reception?” Guess what? This event is FREE to any U of A BAS alum and friend. Now, that’s easy! Why not mark your calendars today? Plan to attend the November 8 pre-celebration of the 25th Year Reunion Celebration. We certainly look forward to seeing you at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock. Come on! What else is there to do? Go Hogs! Please register now for our celebration: www.arkansasalumni.org/lrroadtosilver.
