After a decade of research and strategic planning, the Arkansas Alumni Association is expanding its membership to include all graduates of the University of Arkansas, beginning on the day they receive their degree. This new philanthropic membership model ensures that every graduate is welcomed as a member while encouraging philanthropic support across campus. At the same time, the association remains committed to its Life Membership program, which continues to be a cornerstone of its mission.
Brandy Cox M.A.’07 Ph. D’23, associate vice chancellor and executive director of the Arkansas Alumni Association, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “My responsibility has been and continues to be building and providing a program that serves all alumni and places the University of Arkansas at the center of what we do. We have worked closely with colleagues and volunteers to prepare the association to be a better service provider for our Razorback Family.”
The Arkansas Alumni Association remains dedicated to fostering fellowship and loyalty among alumni and friends while informing them about the university’s progress and needs. The new membership model strengthens engagement and ensures that all contributions — whether time, financial support or other resources — are recognized and celebrated. Regina Hopper B.A.’81, J.D.’85, president of the Arkansas Alumni Association National Board of Directors, highlighted this shift, saying, “This approach sustains our cherished Life Membership program, fosters meaningful engagement, enhances allegiance and support for the university, and ensures that every contribution of time, treasure and talent is acknowledged and celebrated.”
As the association looks to the future, it is broadening its reach by developing alumni communities nationwide in coordination with the newly established National Office of Philanthropy. As a vital partner in the Division of Advancement, the association is shifting from annual membership transactions to a more dynamic and inclusive engagement model. This transition allows for optimized resources, deeper alumni connections and a stronger culture of philanthropy.
The Arkansas Alumni Association recognizes people’s broad and diverse connections to the university. The new model introduces four tiers of membership, honoring all who take pride in and support the U of A. Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Scott Varady B.A.’85 called the new model a transformative step forward, stating, “The new membership model makes the organization stronger and better positioned to advance the institution’s 150 Forward Strategic Plan.”
This model was made possible through the dedication of association volunteers and staff and the generosity of donors and members. The Arkansas Alumni Association remains committed to serving its 170,000 alumni worldwide while supporting more than 600 students annually with approximately $1.3 million in scholarships.
