In the weeks leading up to Homecoming, members of the Student Alumni Association are working hard to make each event a success, including the American Red Cross Blood Drive.
Each year, the blood drive marks the official kick-off of Homecoming festivities and SAA members hope to make this event bigger and better than ever. Students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to rally together in an effort to give blood and be a part of an event that is helping to save lives.
On Wednesday, Oct. 24th and Thursday, Oct. 25th, participants may give blood from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. The location of the drive is the HPER, 155 N. Stadium Dr., Fayetteville, AR. Participants must report to the basketball gymnasiums on the third floor to donate. In an effort to expedite the donation process, the Red Cross is strongly encouraging participants to make an appointment when considering a blood donation.
According to the American Red Cross website, donors must weigh 110 pounds in order to give blood. Those who qualify for a double red cell donation must meet certain requirements: Males must be 5’1” in height and weigh at least 150 lbs and females must be 5’5” in height and weigh at least 175 lbs. During a double red cell donation, a machine allows you to safely donate two units of red blood cells while returning plasma and platelets to the donor.
Those who participate in the 2012 Blood Drive will receive an “Every Day is a Hog Holiday” t-shirt, as well as one point toward his/her registered participating organization, or two points if the donor qualifies for double red cell donation. Participants are encouraged to read the Blood Drive rules and regulations in the Homecoming 2012 packet.
Help us continue our efforts in saving lives by being a part of the 2012 Homecoming Blood Drive. Give Blood and Save a Life, it’s that easy.
