This first semester I have been given multiple opportunities to get involved with the University and the RSOs. One event that I am going to be a part of this coming weekend is the Diwali Festival held at Fayetteville High School in their auditorium. The past week and a half, I, as well as the others in my group, have been working constantly to learn the dances will we be performing. The songs we will be dancing to include SWEETY SONG, tune maari entriyaan, jumme ki raat and Madari. Each of the songs has significance in India, whether sung by a popular artist or a song reflecting their culture. Throughout the process of learning these dances I have gotten to know some amazing international students, as well as learn about differences in Indian culture, which depends on the place in which you live. I have learned traditional or classical Indian dance moves as well as some dance moves that are equivalent to hip hop or break dancing here in the United States.
Another opportunity I have had is the opportunity to be a part of the First Year Photo Project put on by the University. Through participating in this project I have gotten to know a few people on campus who love photography as much as I do. I have been able to see how others view the world around them. I have had the privilege to see their lives through another lens (Pun intended). I have been able to explore my own strengths and weakness when it comes to my camera as well as learning to think outside the box.
Overall this first semester has been wonderful for me. I have had more opportunities to do things that I never thought were within my reach. I have made some amazing discoveries, both personally and career wise, and have made some wonderful friends. I cannot wait to see what opportunities next semester and the next few years bring!
