Let us first say that we appreciate your interest in the Black Students Association (BSA) this year and will continue to work to keep your legacy alive. BSA has been working diligently this year to promote Unity on Campus. Our first step was the establishment of the African/African-American Presidents Council. This Council of student leaders is composed of Presidents from the top 8 African/African-American organizations, ranging from the African Students Organization to The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Our objectives are to offer transparency with one another and encouragement when needed.
In working together, the African/African-American Presidents Council has been successful in creating a calendar of events for the 2011 fall term, and plans for the 2012 spring term are underway. BSA is at the forefront of this initiative and is working to ensure that the efforts of the black alumni are considered and appreciated.
Also in efforts to promote Unity, worked with the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) on an event geared toward breaking down stereotypes. It is important for us to not only reach out to our Greeks but to non-Greeks as well in hopes to build a more united black race on campus. Many have tried to discourage us in our efforts saying that this cannot be done and has been tried in the past; however, with the knowledge that nothing is impossible with God, BSA moves forward in its commitment to promote Unity within our campus, and we believe God will grant us favor in our efforts. Our NPHC/BSA event took place on October 13,2011 in the Union Theater and was hosted by BSA 1st vice president Miss Candace Daniels and BSA 2nd vice president Mr. Timothy R. Williams. Once again, thank you for all of your support, and we will continue to work hard to continue your legacy of excellence.
Respectfully,
Raven Cook
