The following is a guest post by John L Colbert, 2011 reunion chair volunteer with the Black Alumni Society.
We are anxiously awaiting your return for the 10th Black Alumni Society Reunion. Did I say 10th? Yes, I did and it is with high honors that I inform you of the festivities being planned for your return. You will be able to rekindle those bonds with your fellow college mates and friends once again, as we continue to provide much needed scholarships, furthering the education of our African-American students enrolled at the University of Arkansas. We say thank you for your generous scholarship contributions. Because of your generosity, we have been able to award 160 scholarships and approximately $250,000 since 1998.
Many individuals are working extremely hard to make this event one you will never forget. Our theme, “Return, Reflect, Renew” truly exemplifies what this reunion will represent.
This year, we will honor several outstanding University of Arkansas African American female athletes who left their mark upon the “Hill”. We will also pay homage to Dr. Gordon Morgan and Dr. Margaret Clark as the first African American faculty members.
To continue to meet your needs, we will once again provide you with the following at the reunion on April 11-17, 2011:
- Lower Reunion registration costs with various registration options
- Celebrity Golf Tournament on Friday morning
- Child Care will be available
- Online registration
I sincerely hope that these added attractions will serve a dual purpose for us as we celebrate the achievements of the alumni returning to campus as well as providing a way to meet our goals as it relates to the Scholarship Endowment Fund for our African American students attending the U of A.
I want to thank each of you in advance for your attendance at OUR REUNION. Please take advantage of the early registration.
Looking forward to returning to the “hill” to reconnect with my college friends and my sorors of Delta Sigma Theta!–Helen

This is a resourceful tool for students to reconnect with former classmates. In addition too, a reunion like this attracts new students to the U of A campus. Maybe the progress on the hill might find its way on the Arkansas Tech University campus. Tech does NOTHING for its African American students; in fact, the International Office promotes activities. What a joke…she and other people in positions do not know how to relate to black people at all. They would never support a high-profile event like U of A. nnKeep the progress going U of A!
