Rally_House-photo-by-JBThe Arkansas Alumni Association proudly welcomes new board of directors with the class of 2012. Each board member has agreed to serve a three-year term starting July 1, 2009.

Members of the Arkansas Alumni Association approve the selection of candidates to serve three-year terms on the board of directors, which comprises slated members, at-large members and officers. The board oversees programs and policies that carry out the Association’s mission – to connect and serve the University of Arkansas family.

The new board members include:

John L Colbert, BSE’76, MEd ’81, Fayetteville – A Rondo native, Colbert was the first African American special education teacher at Bates Elementary School in Fayetteville, which led to a position as principal. Now Colbert is the associate superintendent of elementary education for the Fayetteville Public School District. He is involved in many organizations including University of Arkansas Partners in Education, Yvonne Richardson Community Center Board of Directors and Kappa Kappa and Omicron Zeta Lambda Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Actively involved in the Black Alumni Society, Colbert is an annual member of the Alumni Association.

W.L. Cook, II, BSBA’80, El Dorado – Cook credits his experience at the University of Arkansas in reconnecting him with his home state. Having spent time in private military schools and meeting individuals from all over the world, the university experience revealed a diverse culture and subsequently, he followed an opportunity to return to Arkansas. With two certified public accounting offices, Cook currently serves as senior member of William P. Cook & Associates, PLLC. An A+ life member of the Arkansas Alumni Association, Cook has been a staunch supporter of the association, assisting with chapter events and association-sponsored events.

Rita Geiger, BA’66, Oklahoma City, Okla. – Geiger received a Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 before teaching social studies in the Little Rock and Norman, Okla., public schools. She switched gears and became the director of social studies and foreign languages for Norman Public Schools before landing a job as the Oklahoma Region assessment coordinator for WESTAT. She spent a year serving on the World History/Geography Content Advisory Committee for the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation. An A+ life member of the Alumni Association, she also is actively involved in the Central Oklahoma Chapter in addition to many other professional organizations.

Joseph Post, BSBA’88, BA’93, Altus – Starting work in the family business at a young age, Post is now vice president of sales for Post Familie Vineyards & Winery. A life member of the Association, Post and his siblings – 12 in all – attended the University of Arkansas. The Post family’s relationship with the University of Arkansas has been beneficial. The university conducts a great deal of research at the Post vineyards such as growing different varieties of grapes and testing mechanization.

H. Terry Rasco, BARCH’71, BA’72, Little Rock – A native of DeWitt, Rasco is executive chairman of Witsell Evans & Rasco. He served as principal-in-charge of the renovation and expansion of the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House and the Tyson Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. Rasco served as president of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was elevated to Fellowship by the National AIA, the youngest architect ever honored from Arkansas. The governor appointed him to a three-year term on the Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council. An A+ life member of the association, he also serves as a commissioner of the Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Little Rock.

Stephanie S. Streett, BS’91, Little Rock – Having served as the assistant to the president and director of presidential scheduling during the Clinton administration, she is currently executive director of the William J. Clinton Foundation. Active within her community, Streett serves in leadership capacities in various organizations including the boards of directors for the Downtown Partnership of Little Rock, Women’s Foundation of Arkansas and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Community Development Advisory Council. She is an annual member of the Arkansas Alumni Association.
