Today as University of Arkansas students start the 2014-15 academic year, the Bill and Jo Ella Toller Celebration Bell at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House will peal 25 times at 10:25 a.m. to celebrate the 25th group of Arkansas Alumni Association freshman scholars.
The 25th anniversary year also celebrates the people who contribute to the scholarships – both financially and through volunteerism. In February, a group of passionate scholarship committee members assembled to select this group of freshman scholars.
These scholarships would not be possible without the more than 29,000 Alumni Association members, 25,000 plus Razorback collegiate license plate owners, alumni chapters and societies across the country, and generous donors who contribute to the Association’s scholarship endowments.
Since 1990, the Alumni Association has awarded 3,500 scholarships totaling nearly $6 million! Last year alone the Alumni Association awarded more than $1 million to more than 400 outstanding U of A students. The goal is to surpass that number this year.
Throughout the year, the Alumni Association will highlight the 25th anniversary through stories that will be shared in Alumni Association communications. If you are a former recipient, the Alumni Association would like to know where you are now. Whether it’s been 20 years or 20 days since you’ve been on campus, you remain a special part of our program.
