Mark Power, Rachel Burton and Tracy Reed proudly show off the new "Workin' Like A Hog" t-shirt.

The 2010 Faculty and Staff Membership Appreciation Day was a success!  Faculty and staff who are members of the Arkansas Alumni Association are automatically part of our exclusive campus group “Workin’ Like a Hog.”  To honor them we celebrated their support at “Mexico in May” here at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House on May 11, 2010. We were pleased to welcome more than 100 members who enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with us to unwind after a busy semester. Bordinos and Jose’s of Springdale catered the event and members were treated to the new 2010 “Workin’ Like a Hog” t-shirt, which was voted on by faculty and staff at our faculty and staff event in December.

The event not only allowed the Association to thank those faculty and staff who are members, but it also allowed for those members to see old friends, make new acquaintances and put faces with familiar names. Dr. Gary Ferrrier and Elecia Smith, for example, have communicated by e-mail in the past but were united face-to-face for the first time at this Appreciation event. Several members of Staff Senate, including current chair Angela Black, Michele Payne, Paul Bixby and Jeremy Battjes attended and representing a diversity of campus departments as did Faculty Senate members including Neil Allison (chair), Inza Fort and Senior Associate Dean Bill Curington.

Thank you again to our members who are faculty and staff and who are constantly working to support future students, current students and alumni through their day-to-day activities as well as through their membership to the Alumni Association. Since $5 from every annual membership ($15 from 3-year & $50 from life membership) directly supports scholarships provided by the Alumni Association, you are making an impact on the current and future students of this University. Your efforts increase the value of the University of Arkansas degree. We are so appreciative of your membership and hope to see many of those new “Workin’ Like a Hog” t-shirts around campus and the community!
