     The University of Arkansas, originally called Arkansas Industrial University, was established in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1871 atop a hilltop farm overlooking the Ozark Mountains immediately giving it the nickname, The Hill. The University became the first major Southern public university to admit a Black student without litigation when Silas Hunt of Texarkana, AR, an African American veteran of World War II, was admitted to the University Of Arkansas School Of Law in 1948. Arkansas Alumni Association Welcomes Ashley Batchelor and Rachel Gray to Staff

The Arkansas Alumni Association recently welcomed two new employees. Ashley Batchelor joined the staff as Assistant Director of Communications, and Rachel Gray joined the team as Administrative Specialist III. Batchelor, a native of Little Rock, is a 2007 University of Arkansas graduate with a BA in Journalism. She comes to the Arkansas Alumni Association from 3W Magazine, where she was an Associate Editor, and previously worked as a Features Writer for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
