At the Chi Omega Greek Theater on Friday, October 30, the 2010 Homecoming Pep Rally the night before the Arkansas Razorbacks football game against the Vanderbilt Commodores was electric. At one point, a cloud of cardinal red and white balloons emerged from the crowd and floated into the 39 degree night sky.
To kick-off the 2010 Homecoming week, alumni and business leaders from around Northwest Arkansas learned how to successfully navigate their job search process after college and to find pathways to possibilities. This is the third year that Intercollegiate Athletics, Career Development Center and the Arkansas Alumni Association have joined forces to produce this program for student athletes as well as students from across campus and young alumni.
Whether you are in the stands or in your living room, the Razorback Marching Band wants you to be part of the Homecoming Halftime Show. Each year, the Student Alumni Association helps to organize events taking place the week of Homecoming and this year is no different. To continue in the spirit of Homecoming, there will be various events taking place the day before the big game against Vanderbilt, including a lawn decorating contest, parade and pep rally. This year, UATV will be streaming Homecoming activities live for everyone around the world to enjoy from the comfort of their home or office.
The kickoff event for this year’s University of Arkansas homecoming activities is the annual humanitarian effort to collect blood from campus donors. The students are hoping to collect 850 pints of blood with an additional 200 pints from Alumni drives. Known as a center of excellence, the University of Arkansas is found across the globe as graduates utilize their education and the experiences of their time at the University of Arkansas. The love of the “Hogs” is very real and calling the “Hogs” is truly the Call Heard ‘Round the World.
This October, University of Arkansas alumni, students, faculty and staff will celebrate the “Call Heard ‘Round the World” during Homecoming 2010. The Homecoming theme and logo were announced at the first Homecoming Reveal Rally held Wednesday, September 22. More than 200 spectators gathered at the Arkansas Union Mall to hear the announcement from the Student Alumni Association Board of Directors. They were also there to see performances by members of the Razorback Marching Band and Razorback Cheer Squad.
Following the 2009 Homecoming theme, “A Red & White Affair: Celebrating 100 Years of Razorback Pride,” the week-long schedule of events leading up to the victorious Eastern Michigan vs. Arkansas game carried on a tradition that officially began in 1922. Throughout the week, fraternities and sororities, registered student organizations and residence halls competed for points. The Homecoming winners were announced during half-time of the football game, where Kimberly L. Smith, a health science major from Hot Springs, was crowned queen.
This year the Homecoming Pre-Game Rally was a real treat for members and their guests. Although a late game or Trick-or-treating was right around the corner the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House overflowed with Pride & Passion as over 600 Razorback fans joined us for the Eastern Michigan vs. Arkansas Homecoming Pre-Game Rally and Membership Appreciation Day.
The University of Arkansas community has once again set a new regional and state record. The Student Alumni Board was able to collect 1717 units of blood during the 2009 University of Arkansas Homecoming blood drive.
The Student Alumni Board recently held the official information session for Homecoming 2009. At the meeting Megan Lomax, the 2009 Homecoming Chairperson, and the Homecoming committee revealed the theme, logo and pairings, something that many have been waiting for all semester.
