Sarah Pratt has been chosen by the Arkansas Alumni Association to receive the 2011 Board of Directors Scholarship. Attending Saint Agnes Academy in Memphis, TN, Pratt was encouraged to work hard and achieve good grades. Meeting service hour requirements, being a member of clubs such as National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta, playing volleyball and lacrosse, performing leadership duties for student organizations, and continuing to grow spiritually through theology courses and prayer, Pratt excelled in all aspects of her high school career.

When the time came to choose which college she would attend, she found that the University of Arkansas had various impressive qualities. The student programs, close-knit community and academic reputation all proved to be the positive attributes that led to her decision to attend the university.

“Thank you very much for the Board of Directors Scholarship valued at $2,500 per year.  This scholarship greatly affected my decision of attending the University of Arkansas.  Without this scholarship, I could not have attended a university outside the state of Tennessee.  College is a huge financial burden parents have to endure, but this scholarship has helped reduce that burden for my parents. This scholarship will serve as motivation to do well in school…So thank you again for your generosity and dedication to help students further their education,” she said in her thank you letter.

Pratt’s plans, once she begins school this fall, include majoring in kinesiology. Once she has obtained her bachelor’s degree, she plans to attend UAMS and become an occupational therapist. The reasons for the particular career choice is so that she may continue to help others in a way that will allow them to lead a more “independent and enjoyable” lifestyle.

Apart from her academics and future career goals, she does hope to get involved in Greek Life, intramural sports and community service. Naturally, a part of her time will be devoted to supporting and cheering on the Razorbacks, as well as working towards starting a club volleyball team.
