William “Bill” H. Overby III, University of Arkansas graduate of 1977, emeritus staff member of the University of Arkansas Department of Human Resources and A+ Alumni Association Life Member, won a free iPad Mini after entering the Arkansas Alumni Association’s Facebook “Like” contest.
For the 2013 holiday season the association decided to give back by donating $1 to scholarships for every new Facebook ‘Like’ it received up to 10,000 “Likes.” As an added bonus, the association held a giveaway for a free iPad Mini on December 20, 2013. Overby was one of more than 200 contestants who entered.
He described winning as, “the best Christmas present.”
The iPad giveaway was only eligible to Arkansas Alumni Association members as one of the many perks of membership.
When asked about being a member, Overby stated, “I have watched the Alumni Association grow from a few employees to becoming a dominant voice for the institution and her alumni. How could I not be a member?” Overby went on to say that, “the Arkansas Alumni Association embodies the significance I place on the institution. I consider the University my home, and my countless friends, co-workers and fellow alumni as part of my family.”
Asking Overby for any advice he would give to other alumni, he stated, “Stay involved, take classes if able, and interact with our students and other faculty and staff outside of your area. Go to a play, attend a concert, support our teams, and support the Alumni Association and the University at every opportunity!”
Take his advice – support the Alumni Association every way you can. Start by ‘Liking’ us on Facebook. The Arkansas Alumni Association’s “Like” campaign will continue until we reach 10,000 “Likes.” Remember, we will donate $1 toward scholarships for every new like we get. Like us, support education.
