Mason Faber is the latest recipient of a $500 scholarship, which was awarded by the East Texas Chapter. Attending White Oak High School in White Oak, TX, Faber accumulated many awards for his hard work and dedication to academics and sports. Some of these included earning an Eagle Scout award, being in the top five percent of his class, being a member of National Honors Society, placing fifth in the regional power lifting contest, and ranking in the top two percent for the NHSPA National Journalism Honor Roll.

Hoping to transfer this hard work ethic from high school to college, he was told to find a place that would make him “feel most at home and would have the most fun,” he said. Growing up with family members who were LSU fans, Faber decided to take a different route and instead, take a chance on the University of Arkansas. Once he visited the campus, he admits that, “everything just felt right, I felt like I was home.” Deciding to forgo the purple and gold for red and white, he looks forward to cheering on the Razorbacks.

“I would first like to thank you for generously awarding me the East Texas Chapter Scholarship in the amount of $500,” he said. “I fell in love with the Arkansas campus whenever I visited, and knew that it was the place for me. Although the costs are high, I knew that it was the only place I wanted to be. I filled out the Arkansas Alumni Association [form] in hopes of obtaining a scholarship, and you graciously chose me. Thank you, Mr. Hill, for the scholarship and making attending the U of A that much more in reach.”

Taking the knowledge he learned in math and science, in high school, he has decided to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. During his college search, he looked for schools with quality engineering programs. Seeing the university as respected institution, Faber is excited to begin his program in the fall.

“Again, I want to thank the Alumni Association for their generous gift in aiding me on my journey. You made deciding my future that much easier. I look forward to spending the next four years learning the tools of the trade in the Bell Engineering Center, and then moving on to my career with high qualifications in the field of Engineering. Thank you again for aiding me on my journey at the U of A.”
