Julia Kucherich’s love for adventure propelled her from Pennsylvania to the University of Arkansas. She says moving halfway across the country to a place where she knew no one was the best decision she ever made. When choosing a college, Julia wanted to move away from home, get out of her comfort zone and be an accomplished student. She has accomplished all three.

She knew there was more to life and college than athletics and pursued active involvement in volunteer positions on campus and in the community. The experience that solidified her career aspiration was becoming a founding volunteer and outreach coordinator of Razorback Food Recovery. RFR encompasses both of her interests in serving the community and providing nutrition to the underserved, all while fighting food insecurity. Her involvement with RFR ignited a passion for community nutrition and led her to further explore career options in dietetics.

Next year she hopes to complete a dietetic internship with the ultimate goal of becoming a practicing dietitian, working with food insecure populations. While her responsibilities as a student-athlete kept her from studying abroad, she has had the opportunity to travel extensively within the United States with fellow members of the swim team. Competing at the 2012 Olympic Trials while representing the U of A was an amazing honor, she said.
