Cicely Shannon was raised knowing she wanted her life’s work to center around service and the pursuit of knowledge and excellence. She discovered the university offered her a tremendous number of opportunities and resources to be challenged academically as well as to serve the campus and the Fayetteville community.

Being selected a Truman Scholar gives the Honors College student great pride to represent the University. Cicely looks forward to representing the U of A throughout her career whether it is at the World Bank or a local nonprofit. This summer she will start this career path as she interns in Washington, D.C. as part of the Truman Scholar Summer Institute.

The opportunity to serve in several extracurricular leadership capacities within the Volunteer Action Center and the Associated Student Government has developed and honed her leadership skills. In addition, the university has provided her travel experiences and international study opportunities. She has had the pleasure of studying in England and France in study abroad programs and has taken side trips to experience Ireland and Switzerland. This semester she rounded out her college travel experience with a Model United Nations Conference in Rome. These experiences were a catalyst in fueling her passion to work internationally.
