It’s not too late to apply for the 2011 Senior Honor Citation. The deadline to submit materials is 5 p.m. Monday, March 28. Awardees will be recognized with a $500 cash prize and a life membership in the Arkansas Alumni Association at a luncheon on Friday, May 13 with the Arkansas Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Springdale native Regina Hopper B.A.’81, J.D. ’85 will return to the University of Arkansas campus on Feb. 28-March1 as the Arkansas Alumni Association’s 2011 Johnson Fellow. Hopper, who resides in Alexandria, Va., is president and CEO of America’s Natural Gas Alliance, which is dedicated to increasing appreciation of the environmental, economic and national security benefits of clean, abundant and affordable North American natural gas.
Since walking onto the University of Arkansas campus for the first time last year, Tori Pohlner knew that college life meant devoting long hours to studying. However, once learning about the multiple student organizations that the university offered, she decided that some of those hours would be dedicated towards campus involvement – a decision she wouldn’t have any other way.
Due to inclement weather and school closings throughout the region, the Black Alumni Society scholarship deadline has been extended to Friday, February 18, 2011. Applications must be postmarked by February 18 for consideration.
This April, the Black Alumni Society will celebrate its 10th Reunion. As a part of this year’s reunion, the first African American professors at the University of Arkansas, Dr. Margaret Clark and Dr. Gordon Morgan, will be recognized at the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Dinner, for their more than 40 years of service to the university and its students.

T. A. Walton, member of the Chancellor’s Council on Diversity has been hard at work sharing the good news about the University of Arkansas. He has gladly shared with us a personal update on his Diversity activities and contributions.
Dr. Paul Adams is an Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas. His love for science began when he was just a little boy playing with mason jars and bees. But it wasn’t until Dr. Adams began working as a student researcher during his junior year in college when he realized he wanted to become an academic researcher.
The Gamma Eta Chapter and the Upsilon Chi Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. recently celebrated Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week. During the ceremony, several awards were given for Citizen of the Year, Omega Man of the Year, and the Founder’s Award. The highlight of the program was Upsilon Chi and Gamma Eta Chapters acknowledging Bro. Dr. Gordon Morgan as the “Original Bridge Builder.”
The Toller Celebration Bell at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House will ring at noon Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in honor of UATV’s 15th anniversary and the launch of the new channel. Cox Communications has moved UATV to Channel 214, and the station will be operated exclusively by University of Arkansas students 24 hours a day, year-round.
