Dear Black Alumni,

The campus is all a buzz with the arrival of final examinations. Students have begun to speculate on overall standing in their classes and their respective grade point averages. The Black Students Association has still been progressive during this time; however, the main focus of all the executives has been their own grades and achieving the highest academic success. The spring semester is bringing with it many exciting events and opportunities. BSA is preparing for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and to do this, we are working with ASG to host a vigil for the University of Arkansas student body, as well as working on a collaborative effort with African-American studies to help promote the historical legend of Dr. King. Black History Month 2012 will be one of the most exciting. Our other major event is the STATE OF THE BLACK COLLEGE STUDENT in partnership with registered student organizations Sankofa, Connections Mentoring Program the Black Graduate Students and additional help from the University of Arkansas Multicultural Center. This program will encourage students to consider their financial futures as well as social, personal and professional development; all of the things connected to the mission of the Black Students Association. The State of the Black College Student will be held  February 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the University Theater. Last but certainly not least is the BSA Essence of History Fashion Show which will be held Thursday February 9, 2012 in the University Verizon Ballroom. This Fashion Show is in partnership with the African/ African-American Studies Program and will educate students on the contributions of African-Americans in the United States and abroad. Instead of students modeling FASHION they will be modeling HISTORY and we collectively believe this program will be a great success. If you are interested in attending any of the events please let us know as soon as possible so that we may reserve your seating. We will be distributing email and physical invitations for the Fashion Show in late December and early January. Please contact the Black Students Association for more information at bsa.uark.edu or at 479-575-6932. As always we want to let you know that we appreciate your contribution and are working to continue building your legacy. Have a blessed holiday and a Happy New Year.

Respectfully,

Raven Cook
