Thank you so much for awarding me the Phoebe Todd Harris & Anne Harris LaRew Alumni Scholarship of $1,000.  I cannot express how much this award means to me. By receiving this award I can focus more on my studies and less on the loans that I have incurred during my enrollment here at the university. Also, the scholarship helps me enroll in the classes I need to pursue my degree, and also helps to relieve some of the financial burden off my family.

I’m originally from Pine Bluff, AR and graduated from Pine Bluff High School. In high school I was treasurer of Student Council, part of the Pine Bluff High marching band where I was also co-captain of the flag team, and I also was a member of the tennis and track team. While visiting college campuses in Arkansas, I ultimately chose the University of Arkansas and fell in love. The people, the scenery, the environment and the atmosphere were different than what I was accustomed to but there was also a feeling of family and home, so I decided to take a leap of faith and attend.

Here at the university I am majoring in psychology and minoring in biology. I have always wanted to help people and make a difference in their lives that’s why I plan to be a psychiatrist, plus the mind is so amazing to me. I’m a member of the Black Alumni Society and plan on joining the psychology club. I also want to participate in some intramural sports and volunteer in the community. I have made many friends and connections that I believe will last a lifetime and I am so grateful for that.

Thank you again for this scholarship because not only did you help to relieve my financial burden you also let me know that my decision to come to University of Arkansas was the right one.  Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Toreia Harris
