The Tri-State Chapter has awarded Andrew Johnson with the 2011 chapter scholarship, in the amount of $1,000. A resident of Webb City, MO, Johnson was fascinated by math and science. Knowing that his desired major would include his ability to use both of these subjects, he decided on engineering and found that the University of Arkansas has one of the best engineering programs in the area. Once learning this bit of information, his decision to attend the university was easy.

“I would like to take this time to thank all of the donors and members of the Arkansas Alumni Association for being willing and able to provide students with scholarships to help with the financial burdens that come along with attending college,” he said in his thank you letter. “I was awarded a $1,000 Tri-State Chapter Scholarship from the association.  This scholarship will help me because that is another $1,000 that I can use for other college expenses.  Money is not abundant in my household so every scholarship I can get is helpful.”

Planning to enroll in the Honors College, he intends to major in engineering, but is unsure as to which area of engineering he will focus his emphasis. While on campus, he hopes to participate in the band, and because he was involved in student government in high school, he may consider taking part in it at the college level.

“I want to thank the donors again for their willingness to provide money in the form of scholarships for students looking to go to the University of Arkansas.”
