studentDear Black Alumni Society,

Thank you so much for awarding me the Trent , Sheila and Vivian Walton Scholarship worth $500 and the Phoebe Todd Harris & Anne Harris LaRew Alumni Scholarship worth $1000 per year.  I am honored that you find me a worthy recipient of your scholarships.  I really appreciate the financial support that you are providing.  It is tremendous help to my family and I.

At Rogers High School I was involved in student council, link crew, and athletics such as basketball, cross country, and track.  I really enjoyed being connected to my high school, and I feel like there are even more opportunities to get connected at the University of Arkansas, which was one of the deciding factors for me.  Also the students seem to have great pride in being Razorbacks, and it was very contagious.  Overall, the faculty really seemed to care about my future, and they were eager to help me develop.  The combination of these factors prompted me to join the Razorback family, and I look forward to being a Razorback.

During my time at the University of Arkansas, I will be studying Social Work.  I intend to get involved as a student ambassador, so I can be of service to incoming freshmen. This first semester my goal will be to earn honors status by achieving a 3.5 GPA or better.  I would like to become a residence assistant, and a competitive award winner.  Also, I would like to study abroad at some point during my 4 years in order to expand my world view.  There are so many opportunities that are available for me at the University, and I am extremely excited and grateful for all of the blessings God has given me.

Thank you again for the financial support.  I greatly appreciate the opportunity to represent the Black Alumni Society, and I hope to make you proud.

Sincerely,

Xavier M. Smith
